Ever seen this building and wondered what it was? It’s the Theme Building in the middle of LAX. A flying saucer standing among the palms in the sunshine, it greets all the starry eyed visitors as they make their way out of LA’s main airport. The gorgeous white structure sits elegantly on its legs, perched high above the ground. It was opened in 1961 and stands as a classic example of Mid-Century Modern, or Googie, architecture. It has undergone numerous renovations and in 1997, the 60s-style restaurant Encounter opened inside. The observation deck, closed after the September 11th attacks, recently reopened to great hub-ub and fanfare. http://bit.ly/L0ioyJ
